Yesterday, I attended the NY Women in Communications Matrix Awards, where hundreds of the brightest and the best in the communications industry attended, and, a select few, were honored.

Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford were on hand, along with Mariska Hargitay, Sheryl Crow, Tina Fey, and others. Gayle King received an award for her work on O Magazine and Oprah radio, and her best friend Oprah was there to present her with the award. I went there yesterday with no expectations…just mingle, network and have a great time. I was doing so, running into a few ladies I knew, when a man in a suit came running over and excitedly whispered “Oprah’s on her way in!” She breezed right past me in an orange gown and said hello…I did what any normal person would do and froze, mouth agape.

She breezed out of my view as quickly as she came in, and that little voice inside my head began saying I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU JUST MET OPRAH AND YOU DIDN’T EVEN SAY ANYTHING.

Fast forward about a half an hour as the program was about to begin. I knew I’d have another chance, as there was only one entrance into the ballroom. So, I planted myself near that entrance, and as they dimmed the lights and people rushed to their seats, I stayed put. Sure enough, a few moments later, they lined up the celebrities near the door, and there were Oprah and Gayle, just standing there WAITING. I actually had to walk past them to get to the staircase to get to my seat…so it’s not like I’m a stalker or anything, if that’s what you’re thinking :)
But I digress. So I began walking towards them and tapped O on the shoulder. Book in hand, I showed it to her and informed her that she inspired me to write it, and I just wanted her to know. She said “Oh, The Bra Book. That’s so important to women because most are wearing the wrong one, you know!” I said “yes, that’s why I wrote the book and it’s FOR you, Oprah. You started it all.” She said thank you and I said thank you and congratulations, and scurried up the stairs, still in shock that I just SPOKE to Oprah herself.

So, despite the fact that Kitty, Chelsea Handler and Sapphire were all doing book signings in downtown Philly the same day I appeared nearby in Cherry Hill, NJ, I still had a great crowd of ladies on-hand to hear me speak! They had a MILLION questions and I gave away all my best “bra secrets.”

I also appeared on the NBC10 show while in Philly. Here is a link so you can watch it!

Is your Bra fighting your Figure? Get help at L’Armoire
Jené Luciani ,The Bra Book author to talk bra essentials on April 29

April 3, 2010 – Women’s breasts have long been a popular topic of conversation, at least among men, but on Thursday, April 29th, it will be women who are doing the talking, and one woman in particular. Noted fashion expert and author Jené Luciani will be at L’Armoire from 2 to 5 p.m. to sign her popular release, “The Bra Book: The Fashion Formula to Finding the Perfect Bra”. The fashion, beauty and lifestyle editor, host and broadcast personality regularly offers fashion advice on television news outlets nationwide, and has been quoted in Cosmopolitan and NBC’s iVillage.com. She has appeared on the Style Network, the Discovery Channel, and on Fox’s “Good Day NY” and she is a monthly fashion columnist for The Wag magazine.

Luciani’s message is simple. Most women wear bras that don’t fit. They are often uncomfortable, unsupportive and unflattering. Knowing how to choose the right bra for your shape can make a big difference in how your clothes look, your comfort and can even make you look up to 10 lbs. slimmer.

New Canaan specialty lingerie store, Soleil Toile and Elm Street Books will collaborate with L’Armoire on the “bra event.” Throughout the day on the 29th, the chic boutique will present a collection of bras in various styles and sizes along with personnel who are expert in bra fitting at L’Armoire to help shoppers find the perfect fit. Elm Street Books will also be there with copies of The Bra Book for sale.

“It really is what’s underneath that counts,” says Diane Roth, owner of L’Armoire. “Jené Luciani’s enlightening book explains the basics of bras and how to find a bra that fits like a glove and enhances your figure. This event is a chance to have some fun, but more importantly, we will be offering some really useful information to help women look and feel their best.”

L’Armoire features high-end designers including Cynthia Rose, Gianfranco Ferré, Christian Siriano, Isaac Mizrahi and Gerard Darel. The store, which was established in 1985, also carries estate and modern jewelry. L’Armoire is located at 102 Park Street, New Canaan, Ct. Store hours are Monday through Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday by appointment. For more information call 203.966.1764, or visit www.LArmoirenewcanaan.com.

Real Housewife Alex McCord and husband Simon are DEFINITELY known for their fashion sense and love of shopping. So it was no surprise when Alex told me she took on a gig as Creative Director of the upscale re-sale chain Second Time Around. I stopped by to see her in the Westport location, and scored a fabulous like-new pair of Coach rain boots (yes, it has been raining ALOT!) and a Fendi print top in great condition. Total? $80!

I also got the scoop on Alex and Simon’s new book, which comes out next month and is available for pre-order on Amazon.com. No one knows more about parenting in the concrete jungle than these two! And Alex has been an amazing supporter of The Bra Book, so I am more than happy to support her first tome, which is sure to become a bestseller, and advice that any urban family can use. Check out Little Kids, Big City: Tales from a Real House in New York City, on Amazon.com.
